Why do we have wet dreams

Sexuality not only manifests itself on a conscious level, but our unconscious is also a participant in our desires. Something that's very clear in wet dreams, those dreams when you have sex in a way that's so intense and pleasurable that you can even have an orgasm and ejaculate, in the man's case. But why do we have wet dreams? What happens if you dream about someone who isn't your partner? Why do you have dreams like this if you're already sexually active? At OneHowTo.com we have a special article to answer all of your questions on the subject.

The cause of erotic dreams

The dream world isn't so easy to define, and although there haven't been extensive scientific studies about wet dreams, they are well known to be a manifestation of sexual desire. They may be due to a long period without sexual activity, foreplay that didn't end in intercourse and even, in the case of men, long periods of abstinence whereby the body needs to somehow get rid of accumulated sperm.

Wet dreams: who has more of them

For some time it was believed that wet dreams were more typical in men, but some recent studies have shown that both sexes have similar percentages of erotic dreams. It was simply that before, women were less likely to share their experiences

Wet and orgasmic

Not all such dreams make us wake up in the middle of an orgasm. Many simply show that during sensual fantasies, arousal is produced: vaginal lubrication in the case of women and erection in the case of men. However, a percentage close to 4% of these episodes end in orgasm, which makes the person wake up abruptly with the same feeling as the one you have after having finished a round of sex.

Is there a secret behind them?

Our brain constantly records experiences and information but not all that we dream has subliminal messages. If a woman has a wet dream with another man other than her partner, it doesn't necessarily mean that she wants to be unfaithful. Perhaps the image of this person was recorded in her mind and was processed in this way. The same happens with dreams of homosexual experiences, if you're sure about your sexuality and there's no room for doubt.

They're more common in adolescence

During adolescence, the body is full of hormones and your sexuality begins to emerge, it's a time when you're impressionable and eager to experience different things. It's more common to have wet dreams, but these episodes accompany men and women throughout their lives and the best is to enjoy them for what they are: a unique opportunity to receive pleasure without any effort.
